Flights: The main access is by plane from Caracas (Simón Bolívar International Airport) with airlines. Keep in mind that flights can be irregular, so flexibility is key.

Accommodations: There are inns and boutique hotels available, catering to all tastes. Research and choose the one that best fits your budget and travel style.

Luggage: Pack light; a small, comfortable suitcase is ideal as space on the small planes is limited. Bring beachwear, swimwear, sunscreen (very important!), a hat, sunglasses, and mosquito repellent.

Cash: Bring enough cash in bolivars. While some places accept foreign currency, there aren't many ATMs, and internet connectivity can be intermittent.

Medical Certificate: You may be required to present a medical certificate to travel to Los Roques, especially if you have any pre-existing health conditions. Check with the airline or your travel agency.

Before traveling to Venezuela, and especially to an indigenous reserve, you need to prepare the following documentation:

• Visa: If required by your nationality, you must process a tourist visa at the Venezuelan consulate in your country.

• Tourist Card/Entry (DAEX): Ensure all your entry documentation for the country is in order.

• Special Permits (Critical for your trip):

  • For the Yanomami expedition, the operator must process special permits with Venezuelan civil and military authorities, as you will be entering a biosphere reserve (Casiquiare - Pasimoni) and a border zone. Confirm that these permits are secured before departure.

• Travel Insurance: Purchase insurance that covers emergency medical evacuation, as you will be in a remote area.

The Amazon itinerary is fixed by the expedition (San Carlos de Río Negro - Río Pasimoni), but you need to coordinate the additional days for the rest of Venezuela:

• Amazon Days: The base Yanomami expedition package is 4 days and 3 nights.

• Flight Connections: Ensure your international flights connect appropriately with the domestic flight that takes you to San Carlos de Río Negro.

• Buffer Days: It is highly recommended to add one or two buffer days in Caracas (or Maiquetía) at the beginning and end of your trip. This protects you from potential delays in domestic flights (which are common in Venezuela) without affecting your international flight.
